Flexible Stone (Granite Finish with Textured Surface)—A Lightweight Stone Solution for the Exterior Renovation of Hefei Hexiangyuan

This project involves the comprehensive exterior renovation of the Hexiangyuan complex in Hefei, China. The aim was to enhance the visual depth and overall quality of the building's façade through a stone texture that is natural, rustic, and sophisticated. Simultaneously, the project required a material that could meet the multifaceted demands of large-scale exterior application—specifically regarding weight, installation efficiency, and aesthetic impact. The design team sought a wall-cladding material capable of replicating the rugged texture of natural granite while offering the benefits of lightweight construction and ease of installation, thereby creating a natural, dignified, and modern visual effect for the building's exterior.

After evaluating traditional exterior cladding materials—such as natural stone—the project ultimately selected our "Soft Stone" textured granite series. These products, featuring dimensions of 300×600×2.5mm, are lightweight, flexible, and easy to install, effectively alleviating the handling and installation burdens associated with heavy, traditional stone. 

The textured granite’s rugged, natural surface replicates the visual depth of authentic stone, lending the building exterior a realistic and organic appearance, while the material's flexibility offers greater operational versatility during on-site installation.

The project involved the application of approximately 13,000 square meters of this textured soft stone across the exterior facades of the Hexiangyuan complex. A unified stone texture and color scheme created a harmonious visual consistency across the various building elevations. The standard 300×600mm format facilitated efficient on-site layout and installation, while the slim 2.5mm profile further enhanced ease of application. Under natural light, the textured finish produces rich interplay between light and shadow, adding subtle depth to the facades while preserving the dignified, rustic aesthetic of natural granite.

For large-scale exterior wall projects, installation efficiency is a crucial factor. Compared to traditional, heavy stone materials, flexible stone with a rough-hewn granite texture is significantly lighter; it offers greater flexibility in on-site handling, cutting, and installation, allowing it to adapt to the specific requirements of various wall sections. Its flexibility ensures a superior fit against the wall surface, creating a seamless and cohesive decorative finish for the building's exterior. Furthermore, the material possesses waterproof and moisture-resistant properties, meeting the durability requirements for exterior wall cladding in diverse weather conditions.

Upon completion, the exterior of Hexiangyuan displays a natural, dignified, and richly textured stone appearance. The expansive rough-hewn granite texture harmonizes with the building's overall architectural style, enhancing the facade's tactile quality and visual impact. The large-scale application—covering 13,000 square meters—demonstrates the material's immense potential for major exterior wall projects.

With its slim profile (300×600×2.5mm), realistic natural granite texture, and lightweight, flexible nature, this material offers a decorative solution that combines the aesthetic appeal of stone with ease of installation.
